Smith College Museum of Art

The Museum at Smith College began collecting works in 1879 with a focus on American and European art.
Acquiring works of quality, while recognizing the instructional value of preparatory studies and unfinished works. The Museum assembled important works of the nineteenth century, including works by Edgar Degas, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, and others.
In the early 1990’s acquiring works by women artists and artists of color became a collecting priority. In the last decade, the collection has expanded significantly to include African, Islamic, and Asian art.

The Museum educates and engages both students and public audiences alike.
